Just curious! What is good photography and what is bad photography? Please give your full or limited understanding that you know on this subject. If you want to heat up this topic and bring the house down, please kindly inform the forum administrator in advance!

Hello Jimmy, I started photography in few yrs ago, seeking knowledge advance with equipment trying to capture "the moment" and good picture. And I believe everybody in this forum grow and develop while going down the road. Comparing the picture I have taken over the few years huge difference not saying the best but good detail, more define, breaking the rule of the basic... etc.. But out of all these best picture that I have taken its nothing compare to the old photo that i have taken back in the days i am a newbie... those pictures are not well taken but it brings wonderful memories back then went I think back. What is good photography and what is bad photography?

If one has a passion for a hobby and that passion never dies, he/she will reach the apex of her creativity and capability but alas all capability has a limit and when you reach your limit maybe that is the best that you can do (this includes having the funds to buy the best equipment).Perhaps a good photograph depends on your level, a beginner will consider an average photo by an average photographer to be "good" and so on and so forth...... to simplify it I totally agree with Lowlights so as not the beat the horse to death... Good photo - you keep and like whether yours or others and enjoy looking at it. Bad photo - you delete. Like one of my teacher on basic portraiture once looked at all my portraits (about 30 of them) and as he went through them one by one I heard "crap" 30 times.... ;D

Jimmy, do you mean photography as the process or the hobby? The replies I read seemed to be relating the the output, photograph.

Jimmy, do you mean photography as the process or the hobby? The replies I read seemed to be relating the the output, photograph. What you mentioned is correct. It can be of anything relating to photography and not just the output. Just hoping to spur some discussions of different perspectives on what is good and bad photography for different people. No one answer is absolutely correct, just different perspective.

Well for me .....
Bad photography is having to stuck with the same style of photography even though certain level of competency was achieved. That means that no personal improvement.
Good photography would be constantly challenging oneself to push the boundaries of its own comfort zone. Even to the extend of creating bad photos.
