Hi All, a question on the exposure for this picture. Although the focus in on the man in mid ground, can the lady in foreground be over exposure? How would you take this shot to reveal the expression on the man in this part of the story? All comments from any perspective are truly welcome. ISO: 400 Aperture: F4 Shutter: 1/45 Cheers! Not sure why you would want to over expo the lady in front.. but the answer is no you can not as both character share the same lighting .. But if the guy was in a darker spot and the lady in a brighter spot .. then metering on the guy will over exposed the lady And again your common mistake .. too much space on top First of I would have wait so that the dangling stuff (the right one) is clear of the lady before taking the shot.. now that thingy is "poking" into the lady's head To revel that facial more .. I suggest that you lose more of the lady Hard to express .. so I took the liberty to alter your photo .. let me know if you are offended and I will remove it from this thread I have also adjust the exposure and contrast a little .. this is so that the background is darker and the subject of interest stands out even more

Great! Thanks Mr LowLights, over exposing the lady wasn't intentional because you were spot on that I was focusing n metering on the guy face Hence the resultant picture but will remember 'sharing the same light'!! Please do keep the picture so people can learn how lighting n framing can dramatically improve a plain picture. Thanks alot!

Yes lose the lady even though she is your friend's mother. ;D But seriously crop in tighter to show the expression and when you crop in tight enough, you can use the lady as a right side frame to lead in to the subject and perhaps even blur her more.

Yes Sir, thanks for your comment. Looking forward to more of your lesson ;D
Seriously dunno how to shoot an opera show. Will it be too 'empty' if I shoot only 1 character or should I try replicate the scene with more characters?
