Wah, sifu asking me about black cloth technique. Sweat! I'm still a newbie in nigh photography and even my landscape fails miserably.
Ok, dunno if I can explain clearly. If I just take the whole think as per normal, the extra bright areas like the left structure will be blown. For my case i have 2 issue.
1. the bright glove like structure on the left 2. The dime spot lights on the roof.
To get the exposure right, I use live view to get a quick check on the exposure. For my case about 70 sec for the buildings, 60 seconds for #1 and 100 sec for the spot lights. (not very accurate but close)
So I use my iphone stop watch to do a timing and set to bulb mode, manual settings. 1st 20sec I covered the bottom leaving the spot lights exposed, then another 10 sec, I cover the bright glove and the remaining 70 sec I dont cover.
Of course you need to "agar agar" where to cover as when the shutter is up, no way you can see what you covered.
