Most of my night shots are not so good, as i did not bring a tripod even with IS and higher ISO, some shots still turn out quite bad. There are a few clear ones, but are just normal shots of lanterns. I choose 2 to enter for this, my first time ;D Only apply Unsharp Mask and add borders to the photos only. #1 #2

Well you really aren't going to like my submissions .... I must be the only person to turn up to a Chinatown Mid-Autumn festival without her tripod and with the intention of leaving before the celebrations start! However, I am a greedy guts and want to win that converter, so here goes ... #1 Lightroom>CS2>curves/levels/colour boost in lab mode/sharpening/vignette #2 same work flow as above, with median noise reduction and no vignette #3 same workflow as #1

Looks like many members want to c&c and tk here, I suppose if thats what members want and it makes them happy to do that, then so be it, I bend to popular demand - let the tk begins. Result will still be published on 1st October 2007 and judges decision is still final. Whatever is tk'd here will not sway the judges Open society, open mind, graciousness in members, refine be one with members like the Borg constructive comments sweet and short

Chief like "buay song" leh. dont like that leh. OK since I'm one of the guy to ask for permission to TK and C&C here, I take the 1st bullet to shoot.
Photo by Pebblebaby and Lowlights on the "sian nu" is too simple to me.
Photo by Lowlight on the Budha relic is great. I like the effect. Well done.
Photos submitted by BigU2fan is unfortunately in B&W which is not my taste for a happy festive mood. Its a colourful festive so should be in colour.
Photos by nolifesg is with the theme. the door knocker photo is good. The lanterns is also good, however if the 1st lantern is of a more vibriant colour, it will be better. (not much choice there I guess)
Photos by Gilbetgoh.... 1st one on the old men doesn't really rythm with the theme and the fact that the right man is cut into half is a nono. The 2nd pic is very artistic but i dont see the linkage to the theme.
foxgal... I dunno how to comment on the photos.
28degree, the joss sticks blur to a certain artistic effect but not enough to hold ones attention. The 2nd photo have too much whites on the side. Its a good idea to use it as a frame but here the subject is less than the frame.
Lotusfairy, your big china paperbag is nice. Zoom in and i believe that will make a winning entry.
Mandy, Love your 1st and last pic. Your PS effect is great and so is the overall composition. #1 should be one of the winning entry. #3 may not be along the theme.
aloyyolaaloy, your #1 is good but honestly I prefer the one lowlights took. Maybe size made a diference. submission in small size will be a disadvantage becos to me I feel that you are hiding the details. However That may not be true, just a feeling from my point of view. Yr teapot if given more DOF will make a very good photo.
Kernic, too much Gausian blur on the fairies. the temple is nice.
Disclaimer. I'm not involve in the judging at all. My comments are purely base on my own point of view and taste. Hope I dont offend anyone by speaking out what I really feel about the photos. ;D
Frankly, you all put in a lot of effort and for that effort, I will give each of you (those who submitted photos here) a karma point. Reason is effort put in to participate in the competition.

to me all are. thanks deswitch for your comments. i was using a 50mm for pic 1 so not hing much about that. i think i still need quite a bit of training to show the feeling i had at that time which was "watchers of time" the second was more for mandy, i know you liked this. ) found it interesting too. i am learning to shoot without looking thru the view finder. thanks again for the comments from a noob in training to be a better noob.

Announcing the winner of the first fotographique forum competition: Autumn Festival in Chinatown The 1st prize of a teleconverter goes to: Manda - The eyes keep straying to that dirty thumb nail. Relevant to the theme ahd, great separation of subject from foreground and background. The 2nd prize of 1 karma goes to: nolifesg - the word on the lantern got the judges and from there the lead on to the end of the lanterns, angle of view is also good. The 3rd prize of 1 tau nee goes to: aloyaloyaloy - for the view of the templem the tail lights of the cars, the star burst on the lights, the nice exposure of the temple. It was an enjoyable competition - all in all - and I'm sure everybody had a ball of a time. The next competition will be a macro competition and there will be only 1 judge Stevewhy (I want to take part in the competition too) so lets start sucking up to stevehwy....hahaha.... ;D We will announce the date and time - we're thinking of a 1 week duration for competitors to shoot macros and submit their macros for that week. The theme is macros - any macros. So, sharpen up your macro skills for soon we'll be coming for you! Stevewhy will contact the 1st prize winner to hand over the teleconverter. I will insert a karma for nolifesg and aloy can claim the tau nee from me.
